BMW Track Activities

BMW Motorrad’s first ever supersport machine – the S 1000 RR – is making a huge impact at race circuits around the country, ridden by enthusiastic track day riders and professional racers at every level.

After two highly successful years, both on the road and the track, we take a look back at some of the RR’s track-based highlights, and look forward to what 2012 has in store.

Racing Success

• In its first two years in the UK, BMW’s S 1000 RR won the Mirror.co.uk British Superbike EVO Championship title (2010) and has taken two consecutive Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championships (2010 & 2011)
• In 2010 Ayrton Badovini rode his RR into the record books when he won every race bar one to win the FIM European Superstock 1000 Cup Championship
• In 2011 Leon Haslam and Troy Corser have given the BMW Motorrad Motorsport World Superbike team their best results yet with three podium finishes and fifth place in the championship
• The success in the UK has been mirrored worldwide, with further national titles secured in France, the USA, Canada, Finland and Spain

BMW Motorrad UK has held a number of circuit-based events in 2011, enabling fans and owners of the S 1000 RR to experience the full potential of the bike on track. Some of the events included:

• An RR track day at Silverstone which provided seventy RR owners with the opportunity to ride with ex-WSBK Champion Neil Hodgson
• BMW Motorrad UK invited over 100 potential RR owners to join them for a complimentary track rides around Silverstone’s Stowe Circuit with former GP racer and S 1000 RR rider Niall McKenzie
• The ‘Motorrad Extreme’ event saw riders and fans take over Knockhill Circuit in Scotland for a weekend of track riding sessions, pillion laps, race workshops and more

2012 and a new chapter for the S 1000 RR.

BMW Motorrad has made the best even better.

• The new 2012 BMW S 1000 RR retains the class-leading 193bhp engine and combines it with an even better chassis, more advanced electronics and a further refined riding experience
• MotoGP rider and 2011 WSBK runner up Marco Melandri will join British star Leon Haslam to race the new S 1000 RR in 2012 with the BMW Motorrad Motorsport team

2012 World of BMW Track Activities.

World of BMW plans to expand on the success of these events in 2012 with even more opportunities to ride the S 1000 RR on track.

Events and experiences in 2012 are likely to include:

• Demonstration rides at public track days
• BMW S 1000 RR hire bikes at selected track events
• World of BMW Track Skills courses
